Nantucket's Lucky Streak: Another Powerball Winner Claims $100,000 Ticket

Nantucket is on a lucky streak.
Just days after a group of 17 Marine Home Center employees claimed $50,000 on Monday from a winning Powerball ticket purchased at Hatch's Package Store, a second big winner on the island was announced on Thursday.
Someone on Nantucket is in possession of a winning Powerball ticket worth $100,000 that was sold Wednesday at Island Variety. The winner has not made himself or herself known, but Island Variety manager Toni Struncis said it was an exciting time for the store.
"It's super cool and very exciting," said Struncis, who added that Island Variety has been selling lottery tickets since 2000, but had never before had such a large winner over the ensuing 22 years. "Our customers are excited that it was at our store."
Island Variety receives a small percentage from the winning ticket, Struncis said, but it's "just a smidgeon" of the $100,000 prize the ticket holder will receive.
While there were a number of smaller prizes distributed - like the one at Island Variety - in the states where Powerball is offered, no one had the winning numbers for the $1.2 billion prize in Wednesday's Powerball drawing. That means the next drawing on Saturday will have a $1.5 billion jackpot.
