Nantucket voters backed Democrat and Vice President Kamala Harris in Tuesday's presidential election by a wide margin over former President Donald Trump.
With 70 percent of the island's 10,120 registered voters turning out to the polls at Nantucket High School, Harris captured 4,757 ballots or 67 percent of the vote.
Trump finished with 2,159 votes or just over 30 percent of the total.
Island voters also backed other Democrats on the ticket, including Senator Elizabeth Warren in her race against Republican John Deaton, as well as Congressman Bill Keating, State Senator Julian Cyr, and Clerk of Courts candidate Colleen Whelden.
Island voters told the Current that they were motivated more by the personalities and identities of the two candidates than their policies as they exited the polls on Tuesday.
On the series of statewide ballot questions, Nantucket supported Question 2 - which would remove the MCAS test as a graduation requirement - voting 3,701 to 3,077 in favor of the proposal.
On the hotly contested Question 5 - which would increase the minimum wage for tipped workers - island voters strongly opposed the measure, with 2,451 votes in favor and 4,333 opposed. Statewide, the "No" campaign claimed victory late Tuesday night, and the Boston Globe reported 63.9 percent of Massachusetts voters rejected the ballot question, with 73 percent of the state reporting.
