Nantucket’s Quentin the Quahog squirted to the right Monday morning, predicting an early spring is on the way (as hard as that may be to believe in this deep freeze), and we’re happy to report that once again the groundhog from Pennsylvania was wrong!

The Quentin the Quahog tradition stretches back to the 1980s and was started by former Nantucket Harbormaster Allen Holdgate.

Quentin was opened this morning at the town’s Brant Point Shellfish Hatchery by assistant biologist Griffin Harkins. He then paid the ultimate sacrifice and was consumed.

Quentin’s prediction goes against that of Punxsutawney Phil who saw his shadow this morning, portending six more weeks of winter.
