Following the incident, police had Tom Nevers Road blocked off at Lyons Lane and were inspecting a vehicle at the scene.

A pedestrian was struck by a car Tuesday morning on Tom Nevers Road and was eventually transported off Nantucket by a Coast Guard Jayhawk helicopter to a Boston hospital.

The victim was identified by police as island attorney Steven Cohen, who lives in Tom Nevers on Flintlock Road. His condition was not immediately known.

The Nantucket Police and Fire Departments responded to the area near 51 Tom Nevers Road at 6:54 a.m. this morning after the incident was first reported. Cohen was rushed by ambulance to Nantucket Cottage Hospital, while police officers remained at the scene with the road blocked off in both directions near the intersection with Lyons Lane.

Just before 9 a.m., a Coast Guard Jayhawk helicopter landed in thick fog at Nantucket Memorial Airport to transport Cohen to a Boston hospital, as MedFlight could not operate in the conditions.

The driver of the vehicle was identified by police as Brendan Lafferty, of 101 Tom Nevers Road. He will be charged with "several motor vehicle infractions," according to a press release from the Nantucket Police Department. Those charges were not immediately specified.

Cohen and Lafferty were the only people involved in the incident, police said.
