Theatre Workshop's Production Of "Clue" Opens Wednesday Night

The Theatre Workshop of Nantucket will open the doors of Bennett Hall on Centre Street today for its second production of the summer season: “Clue.”
A comedic farce-meets-murder-mystery, “Clue” is based on the 1985 Paramount movie that was inspired by the classic Hasbro board game.
TWN’s production begins at a remote mansion, which includes multiple rooms thanks to a cleverly designed set, where six mysterious guests assemble for an unusual dinner party, complete with murder and blackmail. When the host winds up dead, each guest becomes a suspect, leading to a thrilling 90-minute production.
“It just feels like a great summer show. It's family-friendly, but it's also got humor for everybody,” said producing artistic director at Theatre Workshop of Nantucket and director of the show Justin Cerne.
The production then follows the guests – led by the butler, Wadsworth – including Miss Scarlet, Professor Plum, Mrs. White, Mr. Green, Mrs. Peacock, and Colonel Mustard as they attempt to locate the killer. But the body count continues to grow.
With direction and design from a small group of talented artists, every element – from the lighting and sound to the props and costumes – works harmoniously to create a vibrant and engaging show, including constant movement between various rooms and doors, similar to the game itself.
“Our scenic designer has created this giant mansion and we feel like we're in all of these different rooms, but we're just on the Bennett Hall stage, which is…the magic of theater,” Cerne said. “Everybody's really brought their creativity and their expertise.”
Featuring a cast of New York-based actors, including Broadway veterans, National Tour veterans, and TV show actors who are on the island this summer to work with TWN, “Clue” promises to be a well-rounded show that highlights the theatre season.
The small cast is comprised of the talented Timothy Booth, Sara Brophy, Al Bundonis and his sister Victoria Bundonis, Nicholas Caycedo, Molly Cerne, Eric Coles, Addie Doyle, Eric Huffman, Rachel Ives, and Nick Jordan, who have prepared a spot-on, entertaining production with just two weeks of rehearsals.
“It's a really, really talented caliber of folks on the stage,” Cerne added. “It’s just a great night of theatre. People can expect to see everything they love about the movie and more, because now the characters are live on stage.”
The play promises an evening of laughter and entertainment for the entire family, offering a lighthearted take on the murderous plot without any of the gore, and with the humor always present. “Clue” will run until August 24th, along with a few of TWN’s other summer productions in the coming weeks, including “Tick, Tick, Boom!” and more.
“If you love the movie, come see ‘Clue.’ If you've never heard of ‘Clue’ before in your life, come see ‘Clue’,” Cerne emphasizes.
