The Boston Pops orchestra and conductor Keith Lockhart traveled to the island Saturday night for the 27th edition of the Boston Pops on Nantucket concert event to benefit Nantucket Cottage Hospital.
Event organizers were concerned about the passing tropical storm all week, but it eventually tracked inland and the thousands of attendees were gifted a beautiful evening and sunset. The night was hosted by best-selling author and island resident Elin Hilderbrand.
The Pops played a tribute to Duke Ellington as well as John Williams' "Olympic Spirit" before jumping into a series of classic rock anthems including The Beatles' "Here Comes The Sun," Led Zeppelin's "Kashmir" and "Stairway To Heaven," and The Rolling Stones' "Paint It Black."
Following the intermission, the Pops were joined on stage by the Neil Diamond tribute band Super Diamond. The show concluded with the Pops' playing the 1812 Overture with a drone display hovering over the beach.
The annual event raises more than $2 million for Nantucket Cottage Hospital.
