Daffodil weekend is fast approaching and the crew at Coast Guard Station Brant Point kicked things off on Friday by raising their decorated wreath on the Brant Point Lighthouse ahead of this weekend's annual Daffodil Festival - which begins on Thursday, April 25 and runs through Sunday, April 28.

The wreath was created by island resident and florist Hafsa Lewis, who has become its annual creator while the Coast Guard's part in the tradition of ordering the daffodils and decorating the wreath was led by her husband Charlie Smith, who retired on Friday and was honored afterwards for 20 years in the Coast Guard (six at Station Brant Point). You can read more about that ceremony, the story of how the two met through the daffodil wreath, and what Smith's future plans on the island are by clicking here.
