Nantucket's new fire chief Michael Cranson was sworn into his position on Saturday at 3 p.m., and now he is making his rounds attempting to immerse himself in the community he now calls home.

Cranson met with department heads from across the island beginning at 8 a.m. on Tuesday, followed by a meet and greet with Select Board members and eventually members of the community, which began at 10 a.m.

A few dozen people stopped by the Public Safety Building. Cranson said that the community has been very welcoming so far to him and his wife Haley. He said one of the first things he noticed about people on the island is their willingness to step forward and offer their hospitality.

Cranson arrived on the island hours after the massive East Tristram fire that engulfed the nearly completed property. He said he was disappointed he wasn't there to assist the department, but added that the NFD have proven they are more than capable of handling an emergency such as that one time and time again.

Above are some photos of Cranson meeting with some of these community members, including Nantucket Sheriff Jim Perelman and former NFD Chief Bruce Watts.
