The Maria Mitchell Association hosted its annual Aquarium Release Day on Saturday from 10 a.m. to 12 p.m. at the MMA Aquarium's current location at 28 Washington Street.

Over 400 members of the public attended the event according to MMA executive director Joanna Roche.

Every summer, MMA Aquarium Director Jack Dubinsky, as well as his team of college interns and volunteers, snorkel, seine, and beachcomb the shores of Nantucket to collect over 300 different marine and 7,500 individual marine animals document over the summer. These animals are studied and cared for so that the MMA can help the public  learn more about these important marine organisms while they are featured at the aquarium.

Current photographer Charity Grace Mofsen was in attendance for the release of these critters, and below are some photos during the event.
