PHOTOS: Storm Causes South Shore Erosion, Downtown Flooding

Another powerful winter storm out of the south pummeled Nantucket on Wednesday, canceling boats, flooding portions of the downtown area and Brant Point, while also causing significant erosion along the south shore.

The Nantucket Land Bank announced that it had permanently closed the front row of the Cisco Beach parking lot due to "significant erosion." The back section remains open. At the Surfside Wastewater Treatment Plant, the waves once again washing through the fence of the facility at its southernmost point. Sewer Department director David Gray said he's now exploring options including filling in the three beds closest to the beach to create a buffer. The town's Natural Resources Department stated that Madaket and Tom Nevers were also hit hard.
