The 14th Annual Inshore Classic Underway

The 14th annual Nantucket Angler's Club Inshore Classic is officially underway. This fishing tournament is Nantucket’s largest of the year that takes place over a five-week span. It began on Sunday, September 4 and will run through October 8.

This year’s tournament will have between 300 and 400 people competing in divisions that are split up between all tackle, fly fishing, or a combo. The junior division is free.

Rafael Osona, an avid fisherman with ties to the tournament, said he believes there are a few reasons as to why this tournament has flourished and grown into what it is today.

“We have a world class fishery on Nantucket and the months of September and October offer some amazing fishing opportunities from boat and beach alike,” he said. “Secondly the board members over the years have put in a ton of time and effort to make this event the best that it can be. It has evolved a lot in regard to its format and procedures. Lastly the immense generosity of the sponsors locally and beyond has made the prize pool absolutely amazing, and the contestants walk away with incredible prizes every year

The funds go to the Nantucket anglers club scholarship fund, which is a scholarship for children of club members and is awarded annually to winning applicants.

Osona said there are no major changes this year but recent changes have been an all length format for scoring, meaning there is no need to keep and weigh your fish at the anglers club afterwards. All participants need to do is take a photo and email it to Nantucketinshoreclassic@gmail.com.

All registrations are done online, just click here. You receive your shirt, pin and tournament ruler from the Angler’s club or tackle shops. The awards ceremony will also be making a return this year after a two-year hiatus and will be held October 8 at the Angler’s Club.
