Two Cars Rollover In Major Wreck On Old South Road

The female driver of an Acura SUV managed to survive a massive rollover accident on Old South Road Tuesday night that damaged three other vehicles that were parked at an apartment building along the roadway.
Island first responders arrived at the intersection of Old South Road and Lover's Lane Tuesday night to find two cars rolled over on their sides, and a third vehicle crushed behind them. Somehow, the major wreck was caused by just one vehicle - an Acura MDX - which appears to have been driving towards the airport on Old South Road.
Police are still conducting accident reconstruction, but it looks as though the Acura crossed over the median, hit a small stone wall on the east side of Old South Road, and then collided with a white Honda Accord that was parked at an apartment building. The impact rolled the Accord on its side and crushed another vehicle - a Jeep Cherokee - that was also parked at the residence. A fourth vehicle, a Dodge Ram, also sustained damage from the wreck. The female driver of the Acura had to be extricated from the vehicle by Nantucket Fire Department personnel. She was transported to Nantucket Cottage Hospital as a precaution, but was believed to have escaped without any significant injuries. First responders said they did not believe her to be impaired by drugs or alcohol, but that speed may have been a factor in the crash. No one else was injured.
Nantucket Police, EMTs, and heavy rescue personnel all responded to the scene, and a bystander - Vinny Pizzi - from the Army National Guard also assisted at the scene following the initial wreck. Three vehicles were towed away with significant damage.
