If You're Not Worried, You're Not Paying Attention

To the editor: Lately, I find myself reading and watching the news more intently, especially all national news. I am losing sleep. What happened to my father's and grandfather's Republican Party? My Dad and three uncles all served in WWII. Aunt Ruthie was like Rosie the Riveter; she worked at the steel plant in Buffalo. Grandpa was a Republican Assemblyman for 14 years, accomplishing good things for the people and dairy farmers of Western New York. We grew up with very strong feelings of patriotism.
They’ve all since passed away. I am torn between, 'I wish they were here to help put a stop to this unprecedented madness, and thank God they aren’t here to see how we let it all go to Hell.' If you are not worried, you are not paying attention!
I recently read a quote by former President Theodore Roosevelt that struck me: “To announce that there be no criticism of the president … is morally treasonable to the American Republic." For this reason, I will be attending the National Indivisible “NO KINGS” protest here on Main Street this coming Saturday at 1:00 p.m. on October 18th. If you enjoy your freedom of speech, please join us to hear a public reading of the Declaration of Independence and our Bill of Rights. Stand up while we still can and let’s wave some flags! If you are off-island, find a No Kings protest in a city near you.
