Nantucket Firefighters Thank Sean Mitchell
Nantucket Fire Department Local 2509 •
To the Editor,
On behalf of Local 2509 Nantucket Firefighters we would like to share our sincere congratulations to Deputy Chief Sean Mitchell and his future with Massport Fire. We can never thank you enough for everything that you’ve done for our department and firefighters across the nation.
As a firefighter EMT, you helped show us that our jobs were much more than just protecting the community. Your involvement with programs such as mentoring youth Nantucket, the boys and girls club, and caring for our dear friend Madeline Finch, showed us that helping others went beyond responding to medical emergencies and fires.
As a Fire Prevention officer, you redefined that position. Your dedication to Generation Safe, community education, and teaching school aged children about fire safety truly made a difference. Your work on PFAS and educating all of us on the risks of cancer in the fire service has been nothing short of miraculous being recognized on many occasions by Congressmen, State Representatives, and other leaders in the Fire Service. You collaborated with Nate, Ayesha, Ally, and many others to improve the health and safety of the community.
As a Deputy Chief, you showed us what a true leader is. You led us through the biggest fire on Nantucket In recent history. You helped guide us through a pandemic. You delivered meals and masks to seniors that were unable to leave their houses during your off time from work. You set up vaccination clinics for seniors. You handled controversy with professionalism and integrity.
There are countless other examples of how much we are going to miss you at the Nantucket Fire Department. It’s only fitting you were offered one of the most sought after positions in the fire service in New England.
We wish nothing but the best for you, Ally, Thomas, Patrick, and Eleanor.
With love and respect,
The members of the Nantucket Fire Department Local 2509
