Our Water Needs To Be Guarded And Protected

To the editor: To the members of the school committee that voted to allow artificial turf, I don’t know what part of PFAS is poisoning our water you don’t understand. Never mind that it’s a carcinogen, how about endocrine disrupters (hormones and reproduction problems) that children and teenagers should never be exposed to? How about injuries that are more severe and burns that happen on turf? How about the inability to get rid of the turf when it is past its useful life because no one off island accepts discarded artificial turf, because it’s poison? The sloughing off of the chemicals happens more rapidly in its deterioration so where will these several tons of toxins end up on this tiny island?
I thought the school committee was for the advocacy of children but you are advocating against children and the entirety of the town’s health. We get our water from one place. It needs to be guarded and protected. If it’s money you’re trying to save, the lawsuits will take a far, far, far bigger bite, because you knew all of this and still voted in favor of it.
