Praise For CPS Teachers

To the editor: After attending the CPS Open House this week, I just want to share how impressed I was by the incredible teachers at Cyrus Peirce Middle School. It was clear how much care, thought, and heart they put into their classrooms. Teachers at CPS are challenging kids to think deeply about environmental science, civics, racism, and other important topics, while also helping them build the self-advocacy and responsibility they’ll need to be engaged, thoughtful members of our community.
What struck me most was the genuine care these teachers have for our kids. It was truly heartwarming to see how much time and intention they pour into creating a supportive learning environment. We are lucky to have teachers who have been contributing to Nantucket for literally decades like Mr. Davis and Mr. Liddle, and Mr. Farrell who has been at NPS for 10-plus years. We also have teachers who have joined the district in the past 3 - 5 years and are making a really meaningful impact and creating strong relationships with students like Mrs. Kelly and Ms. Beckford. Teaching is not an easy profession to excel at - it requires long hours, patience and dedication. I'm so proud of CPS for creating this team of caring individuals.
A special thanks to Adriene Lombardi and Mike Horton for the leadership and community of care they’ve cultivated among staff and students alike. There’s so much good happening in our schools that we don't often hear about, and I just wanted to say how grateful I am for it.
