“It’s the most expensive beer in baseball and the product doesn’t match what they’re selling us.”
Another spring, another sluggish start for the Boston Red Sox. While they were able to overcome last year’s slow start and clinch a playoff berth, Red Sox fans continue to be frustrated with how the team is being run by the front office and ownership group.
With star players seemingly being let go left and right to keep more money in owner John Henry’s pockets (estimated net worth of $5.7 billion), fans have begun chanting “Sell the Team” at home games early this season while John Henry is in attendance, with the NESN broadcast catching Henry acknowledging the chants by saying “Oh sell the team!” Before giving a sly smile before NESN cutaway from his booth.
Is it time for Henry - who bought two waterfront properties on Nantucket for a combined $37 million in 2022 while in the midst of a contract stalemate with former Red Sox superstar shortstop Xander Bogaerts - to sell the Red Sox to an owner willing to spend like Henry once did in his early days of ownership?
The Current went around the island to ask fans for their opinions. Let us know what you think in the comments below.
