The Nantucket High School spring musical "Pippin" is underway and runs through Sunday, March 17th. Pippin is based on the 1972 musical by Stephen Schwartz and the book by Roger O. Hirson. The Broadway production was directed by Bob Fosse.

"The show Pippin is about the son of Charlemagne, who is trying to find his self-worth and make an extraordinary life for himself," said director Erin MacIver, the music department head for the Nantucket Public Schools. "He explores different things, and tries to figure out what makes him happy. It was originally done on Broadway in the 70s, and had a revival in 2013, and is set as a group of players performing in a type of circus."

"This cast is only 13 members, but this is a strong group of individuals," MacIver added. "I chose the show because I was in it in college, and loved the experience, the music, and the show itself. When I decided on the show, I then talked to my colleague and assistant director, who happens to be married to the accompanist for the show, and found out that the two of them had been in the show as well. They had been in it six years ago, and I was in 36 years ago. It felt like a sign that this was the show that I should do. It really does explore the aspects of learning what makes you happy in life through all of the trials and tribulations that we go through every day."
