Obituary: Joann Marsland Ponte, 1935-2026

Joann Marsland Ponte, of Nantucket Island, passed away April 4th, 2026 after a period of declining health. She was 91 years old and the wife of George M. Ponte (1995 Cancer).

Born on Nantucket the daughter of the late Leo Marsland & Gertrude V. Marsland-Strucinski.

She lived on Union Street New Bedford, MA all of her married life, until they retired to Nantucket. On island Mom got her real estate license and alongside Dad's snack bar and both running an Inn they were busy.

Her life as a Homemaker, raising five children, school year in New Bedford and summers on Nantucket, running their rental cottages, with Dad joining on weekends.

She is survived by her five children: Debra Ponte of Nantucket, George Ponte of Florida, Mark Ponte of Oregon, James Ponte of Florida, and Kelly Ponte-Morales of Vermont; her grandchildren: Shayn Almeida (Debra), Emily Block (George), Justin Edward Clark Ponte (Mark), Judah Morales (Kelly).

She was the sister of Trudy Janik, and the late sister-in law Adeline Tsimprea. Nieces: Gail, Cheryl, Lorna Tsimprea, LeeAnn Arnold, & Victoria Owen.

In accordance with Joann's wishes service and burial at St. Mary's Cemetery on island were private.
