Obituary: Mark Stephan Ponte, 1957-2026

At age 69 Mark passed over on May 30th, 2026. Born in New Bedford, MA to parents George M. Ponte and Joann Marsland Ponte.

He lived in New Bedford winters and summers on Nantucket Island since birth with his family. He lived on Union Street, New Bedford until his parents retired to Nantucket.

Mark graduated from New Bedford High School, and attended Kinyon-Campbell Business School. He then moved to Nantucket where he was in construction, building many homes and he was an amazing finish carpenter. He was very talented in the building industry on Nantucket and Florida where he lived for many years and on Martha's Vineyard Island. Also loved boats with an extensive knowledge in piloting and mechanics. A natural artist. As a child always making things.

After a short marriage on Cape Cod, MA, spent later years in Oregon.

Mark leaves behind, his son Justin Edward Clark Ponte. His siblings Debra Ponte, Nantucket. George Ponte, FLA. James Ponte, FLA. Kelly Ponte-Morales, VT. Cousins, Gail, Cheryl, Lorna. His niece and nephews, Shayn Almeida, Emily Block, Judah Morales.

Mark was Cremated with his ashes at Cisco Beach, Nantucket, where he loved and spent many summers. Family private services. Mark will be missed and loved until the day we all meet again.
