Nantucket Current •
Matthew “Matt” Allen, 39, passed away unexpectedly on June 15, 2026, leaving behind his beloved wife, Julia, and two children, Lauren and Austin, who were his entire world. Matt also leaves behind a profound legacy of commitment, love, loyalty, and achievement, that will live on in all the hearts who knew and loved him.

Born on June 2, 1987, Matt was raised in Epsom, New Hampshire, by his mother, Janet Allen, alongside his brother, Chris Allen. From the time he could walk, Matt displayed remarkable athletic talent. He began playing Pop Warner football at age 10. Matt went on to excel at both football and lacrosse throughout his years. Matt was coached by his father, Keith Allen while playing football at Pembroke Academy. A gifted student as well as an outstanding athlete, Matt graduated Pembroke Academy as salutatorian of his class.
Matt attended Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute (RPI), where he earned a Bachelor of Architecture degree with a minor in Studio Arts in 2010. Recruited as a defensive back, he played varsity football for the RPI Engineers from 2005 to 2007 and earned Liberty League All-Academic honors in 2007. His teammates remember him as a fierce competitor, a dependable friend, and the steady heart of their close-knit group.
While at RPI, Matt embraced every opportunity for growth. In 2008, he was selected by the School of Architecture for the prestigious Italian Studies Program in Turin and Rome. There, he collaborated with students from Politecnico di Torino on a project focused on the future of the 2006 Olympic Village and developed a broader perspective that would shape his career and creativity for years to come. He later became a finalist in an international design competition in Buenos Aires and served as a teaching assistant, generously helping younger students navigate the demanding architecture program.
Following graduation, Matt began his architectural career with Cube 3 and continued with Steelman Partners and Weston & Sampson. For the past decade, Matt was an integral member of the design-build firm, Procon, serving as a Senior Project Architect and leading the firm’s largest and most complex projects. Colleagues admired his intelligence, attention to detail, precision, efficiency, and unwavering dedication. In June 2025, Matt achieved one of his proudest professional milestones when he earned his architectural license, completing the entire process in just six months—a testament to his extraordinary discipline and work ethic.
To Matt, however, success was never measured by professional achievements or the number of trophies on the field, but rather by the life and family, Matt and Julia built. In June 2012, he met the love of his life, Julia, at the beach and as Matt said, he fell in love at first sight. Matt and Julia were married in an intimate ceremony at their home on December 24, 2013, and later celebrated their marriage with family and friends on October 7, 2017.
Matt and Julia built a beautiful life and welcomed their daughter, Lauren, on June 2, 2019, and their son, Austin, on March 30, 2022. Matt was a devoted husband and wonderful father. Julia, Lauren, and Austin were his entire world. Some of the family’s most treasured memories are found in the simple moments: bedtime stories and cuddles, playful games, being around the fire making s’mores, at the beach, traveling the world, outdoor adventures, dance parties and the traditions Matt and Julia created for Lauren and Austin.
Matt was known for his humor, his unforgettable storytelling, his quiet generosity, and his unwavering loyalty. Whether on the football field, at the drafting table, and at home, Matt brought passion, integrity, and heart to everything he did.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Julia Allen and his cherished children, Lauren and Austin, who will always be his entire world. His father, Keith Allen; his mother, Janet Allen; his brother, Chris Allen; and many extended family members, friends, teammates, and colleagues who will carry his memory with them always.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, July 11, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at Hollis Congregational Church in Hollis, New Hampshire, with a reception to follow. All who knew and loved Matt are welcome to attend and celebrate his life.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to a fund established in honor of Matt’s children’s, Lauren and Austin, to support their future.
Though Matt’s life was far too short, the impact he made is immeasurable. His love, laughter, wisdom and loyalty will continue to live on in his family, his work, his friendships, and the countless lives he touched.
“If ever there is tomorrow when we’re not together, there is something you must always remember. You are braver than you believe, stronger than you seem, and smarter than you think. But the most important thing is, even if we’re apart, I’ll always be with you.” Written by A A Milne.
In loving memory of Matt, a dedicated Venmo account has been created to support the care and future needs of his children, Lauren and Austin. Every contribution, no matter the amount, is deeply appreciated and will make a meaningful difference.
