Boys Lacrosse Smokes St. John Paul II In First Win

The Whaler boys lacrosse team earned their first win of the season in blowout fashion Thursday afternoon, beating the St. John Paul II Lions 15-1.
“They played really well,” head coach Sam Aloisi said. “SJP was missing seven or eight of their starters so that was tough for them, but we moved the ball really well on offense and when George (Boucher) needed to make a save for us, he was great. I thought Cole Evens was great on the faceoffs for us as well. That will be important moving forward that we are strong in that area”
Eleven different Whalers scored in this one, with sophomore Cole Chambers leading the way with three goals and two assists. Seniors Caiden Shea and Cosmo Tedeschi were the only other Whaler players to score more than one goal, registering two each.
The Whalers came out strong, with senior Justin Bloise getting the scoring started. The Whalers didn’t take their foot off the gas all day, combining a nice blend of speed and physicality to their game that made this a one-sided affair and never left any doubt that Nantucket would head home with a victory.
Aloisi said he wanted to work on some things offensively following his team’s defeat against Pembroke last weekend and was satisfied with how they translated that work in practice to the game.
“They did everything right on offense and made the extra pass when they needed to,” Aloisi said. “There were a few times where someone could have scored but made that extra pass to his teammate. Against these better, healthy teams, that is how you need to score and when you score.”
Aside from Chambers, Shea, Tedeschi, and Bloise, the other Whaler goal scorers were Hudson Perry, Evens, Camden Knapp, Makai Bodden, Shane Hanlon, and Colby O'Keefe. This depth scoring can help lift the spirits of a team, but Aloisi said his team can't get complacent with this win.
“Yeah I think these games can be good for the team’s morale, but it isn’t going to be nearly as easy on Saturday. I can tell you that. We got Plymouth South coming to town and they have a really good team. We need to be ready to go.”
The Whalers are scheduled to begin their game against Plymouth South at 11 a.m. on Saturday.
