The Whaler girls lacrosse team beat the Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins in blowout fashion on Thursday, going on the road to win 15-2 with contributions from players up and down the lineup.
Mayson Lower, Evelyn Stahl, Emerson Milne, Hannah Evens, and Emma Davis each scored their first career varsity goals. Head coach Jami Lower said she loves seeing her team perform well offensively as a collective unit.
"We were winning draw controls no question about that and after we get the score up early in, the focus shifted right away to spreading out that scoring," Lower said. "Looking at that stat sheet, so many girls scored their first goal of the season or careers."
Lower said in a game like this where her team can build up large leads, the focus also goes on practicing good habits that will be necessary later on in the season as the competition improves and her team is in tighter games where the margin for error is much smaller.
"I think we were just passing to the right players at the right time and that is what you want to see," Lower said. "We were definitely moving the ball up the field well like we did against Cape Cod Academy. We have continued to work on the assists."
The other Nantucket goal scorers included Emerson Pekarcik (four goals and two assists), Bailey Lower (three goals), Cydney Mosscrop (two goals and an assist), and Evelyn Fey (goal and an assist).
The Whalers will have to wait a couple of weeks to play their next game since no games were scheduled during the school's April vacation, but Lower said the team has some workouts and practices planned to stay fresh and try to keep the momentum going that they have built early on in the season.
Their next game will be Tuesday, April 26 at home against the Monomoy Sharks at 4 p.m.
