Time will tell whether senior Silas Moore fulfills his promise of overtaking senior captain Evan Belanger as the Whaler boys tennis team’s number one singles player, but on Monday Belanger played like a true number one player and led Nantucket to a 5-0 win over the Rising Tide Herons.
The results were as followed.
- Belanger won his match in straight sets 6-0, 6-1.
- Quinn Keating coasted to a win, winning his match in straight sets 6-1, 6-0. He has been one of Nantucket's most consistent players all season long as their second single.
- Henry Kathawala was excellent and won his match in straight sets 6-1, 6-0. He grows by the match and is gaining valuable experience in the third single slot as a sophomore that should bode well for him in the coming years.
First doubles was Boyan Kalpazanov and Moore. They won their match in straight sets as well 6-2, 6-4. Moore showed no signs of slowing down.
- Hawkin Edwardes and Connor McLean were the second doubles pairing and won their match in straight sets also 6-1, 6-1.
The Whalers were ranked #17 in the MIAA’s latest power rankings, so Nantucket is in position to potentially snag a round one home match if they can earn a win against Monomoy, at home, on Friday at 4 pm.
