The Whaler golf team split their first two matches this week to begin their season.
The week began with a loss in their season opening match on the road against the Monomoy Sharks Wednesday afternoon.
Aidan Sullivan shot a 37
Cole Chambers shot a 38
Henry Kathawala shot a 39
Pat Carroll and Braden Knapp shot 40s
Michael Culkins shot a 41
Jack Billings and Ryan Davis shot a 44s
Head coach Sam Herrick said despite the loss, he felt his team played great.
"I'm really excited with the output so early in the season," he said. "Monomoy had a very strong team and as (assistant head coach) Nate (Roberts) told me, if we handed in that scorecard we’d win 99 out of 100 matches."
On Thursday the Whalers traveled to Plymouth to take on the Rising Tide Herons, winning their match 6-0.
Kathawala had a tremendous day shooting a 35 while Chambers shot a 41. Despite no other Whaler shooting lower than a 43, Nantucket was able to sail away with a win.
"The boys rebounded and answered well," Herrick said. "Henry Kathawala shooting under par today in windy conditions was exceptional. Really excited for us to get back on our turf for some home matches next week."
The Whalers will be in action next on Tuesday, September 13, when they host the Sturgis West Navigators at the Miacomet Golf Course at 3:45 p.m.
