MIAA Tournament Schedule Outlook

David Creed •

There are three Whaler sports teams still alive in MIAA State Tournament Action. Below are the teams remaining, who they are playing and when, and who they would be playing next in the tournament if they were to win their games.

BOYS LACROSSE:

The boys lacrosse team has yet to begin their state tournament run. The #2 seed in the MIAA Division 4 Tournament Bracket, the Whalers are poised to make a deep run as long as they play to their capabilities and do not play down to their competition.

The Whalers will begin their season on Monday, June 1st at home against #31 Monomoy at 2 p.m. Nantucket is quite familiar with the Monomoy Sharks, having played them twice in the regular season. They beat Monomoy 17-0 in their home opener and then went on the road to beat the Sharks 16-0.

If Nantucket beats Monomoy, they would host the #15 seeded Rockland Bulldogs in the Round of 16 after Rockland beat #18 Littleton 16-12 on Sunday.

GIRLS LACROSSE:

The #8 seeded girls lacrosse team has already won a tournament game after beating the #25 seeded Monomoy Sharks 19-3 last week. They will be playing shortly after the boys lacrosse team on Monday, June 1st, when they host the #9 Bromfield School at 4:30 p.m. Bromfield finished their regular season 12-4 while the Whalers finished with a 16-2 record. They did not play each other in the regular season.

If Nantucket is able to take care of business on Monday, they would advance to the state quarterfinal and play the winner of #1 Sandwich and #17 Stoneham.

BOYS TENNIS:

The #30 seeded boys tennis team won their preliminary round matchup with #35 Joseph Case High School and will now be traveling to play #3 seeded Newburyport on Monday, June 1 at 2 p.m. The match was originally scheduled for Saturday, but was postponed due to weather.

If Nantucket is able to pull off the upset, they would advance to the Round of 16 to play #14 Martha's Vineyard.
