The Nantucket boys basketball team honored senior captains Karson Wellington and Treyce Brannigan, along with senior Nathan McLean Wednesday night in the Whaler's final game of the regular season. It was a night with plenty to celebrate as Nantucket blew out the Mashpee Falcons 68-37 to finish the season with a 12-8 record.

Nantucket struggled to pull away from the Falcons early. They led 14-9 after one quarter and 27-21 at halftime. Junior forward Jayquan Francis was sharp in the first quarter, scoring eight of his team-high 18 points in the first eight minutes. In the second quarter it was junior point guard Carlos Aguilar leading the way offensively with six of his 14 points.

The third quarter is where Nantucket pulled away and staked their claim on the game. They outscored Mashpee 22-4 thanks to some strong defense and improved shooting. Aguilar and Francis had their fingerprints all over that strong stretch of play, scoring eight points and six points respectively.

Junior center Jack Halik had 14 points of his own, but his scoring was more spread out. He was the only Whaler to score in every quarter and looked to be back to his original self after battling an illness over the past 10-14 days.

Nantucket was ranked #21 in the most recent MIAA power rankings for the boys hoops Div. 4 state tournament. They will likely remain at #21 or fall to #22 when the official rankings are released on Saturday.
