It was a busy weekend for Whaler sports as six teams were in action after the sailing team had their Saturday afternoon regatta postponed due to the strong winds.

The weekend began with the girls lacrosse team seeking their third straight win to begin the 2026 season, and they earned it with relative ease. They beat Martha's Vineyard 15-1 behind four goals from senior captain Dylan Damian and four goals by sophomore Louisa Beni, who continues to have a strong start to her second season as a varsity contributor after an excellent freshman campaign.

Senior Carley Ray scored two goals while Grace Hanlon, Quinn Canty, Finley Herlihy, Rowan Paul, and Maddie Boulter each scored one goal. Nantucket will try to improve to 4-0 when they travel to play Sturgis West on Tuesday, April 7th at 3:15 p.m.

The softball team was also at home playing Martha's Vineyard, and they won 15-6. It was the first victory for Kelly Mayette as the Whaler's head coach as she officially begins her first season.

Ava Watson was the star of the day with four hits, including three doubles to fuel Nantucket's offense. The Whalers will try to improve their record to 2-0 when they host Carver high school on Tuesday, April 7th at 4 p.m.

The girls tennis team was also at home but lost to Martha's Vineyard 5-0. Head coach Luke Thornewill said postgame that the Vineyard had a very tough team on a very tough wind day.

"Everyone playing higher position than normal due to Viki B (Bozhkova) and Evie (Phelps) absence," he said. "But that being said we saw everyone doing their best in extreme conditions and trying their hardest. Mental toughness comes by getting through agonizing days like today actually."

Nantucket will try to bounce back with a win on Monday, April 6th on the road against the Monomoy Sharks at 4 p.m.

On the road, the boys lacrosse team continued their strong start with an 11-4 victory over Martha's Vineyard to improve to 3-0 this season. Senior attacker Nolen Mosscrop continues to have a strong start as one of the Whaler's top offensive threats and led the team with four goals. Senior midfielder Arann Hanlon scored three goals and added an assist while Marco La Chuisa scored two goals.

Senior Andrick Mooney scored one goal and was tied with senior Gaven Smith for a team-high two assists. Senior long stick midfielder Canton Jenkinson also scored one goal.

The Whalers will try to improve to 4-0 on Monday, April 6th when they travel to Pembroke High School to play the Titans at 4:30 p.m.

The baseball team was on the Vineyard and fell to 3-2 on the season following an 8-4 defeat to a strong Vineyarders program. The Whalers had the bases loaded with two outs and one of their best hitters, Henry Tejada, at the plate, but were unable to capitalize on the opportunity in the sixth inning.

"Yeah that’s baseball," Whaler head coach Jack Pearson said. "I’d take that scenario again every time."

The Whaler's pitching was effective, with just three of eight Vineyarder runs tallied as earned runs. Patrick Norris had a strong outing in relief - pitching four and one thirds innings, allowing just two hits and one run while tallying four strikeouts.

Nantucket will try to improve to 4-2 when they host the Monomoy Sharks on Wednesday, April 8th at 4 p.m.

The boys tennis team was also on Martha's Vineyard and lost a close matchup 3-2. They will try to earn their second victory of the season on Monday, April 6th at home against the Monomoy Sharks at 4 p.m.
