This Whaler sports roundup includes an update and photos from the final girls hockey game of the season on Wednesday as well as an update and photos from the boys hockey team's final regular season game on Thursday.
Girls Hockey Season Over After Wednesday's Game Against Plymouth South
The girls hockey team wrapped up their season on Wednesday in front of their home crowd - welcoming the Plymouth South Panthers to the island. Nantucket lost 6-2, and the loss wraps up their season as they will not be qualifying for the state tournament.
Olivia Shuttleworth and Phoebe Fitch were the two Whaler goal scorers. Below are some photos from the Whaler's final game taken by Chris Tran.
Boys Hockey Loses To North Quincy
The boys hockey team hosted North Quincy High School Thursday evening and lost 5-2 despite two goals off the stick of senior assistant captain Canton Jenkinson.
The Whalers finished their regular season at 4-13, however their strength of schedule could keep them inside of the MIAA Division 4 State Tournament's Top 32 teams - which would clinch them a spot in the tournament despite holding a sub-.500 record.
There are no games currently on the schedule since regular season play is over. The MIAA will not generate the brackets for each sport. The girls and boys basketball teams automatically qualified for the preliminary round with records above .500. Boys hockey will anxiously await their fate.
Brackets will be released on Saturday, February 21st. Stay tuned with the Current for news on seedings, opponents, and more.
