This Whaler sports roundup includes an update on the two male swimmers who competed in this weekend’s MIAA state meet as we close out the 2024-2025 winter sports season.
Jake Johnson, Eli MacIver Partake In State Swim Meet

Jake Johnson and Eli MacIver made their way up to Boston University on Saturday to take part in the MIAA Div. 2 state meet, and below are the events they each participated in and how they placed.
Johnson competed in the 50-yard freestyle and placed 4th in his heat and sixth overall in the event with a time of 22.15. Johnson also competed in the 100-yard freestyle and placed second overall with a time of 48.47.
MacIver competed in the 200-yard individual medley and placed 19th with a time of 2:08.61. MacIver also competed in the 100-yard breaststroke and placed 19th overall with a time of 1:06.34.
Whaler Sports Season Complete
Following the boys swim meet, the 2024-2025 Nantucket High School winter sports season is complete. Boys & girls Basketball, as well as boys hockey failed to make their postseason tournaments.
Below is how each team finished their seasons.
Boys Basketball: 8-12 record and #33 in the Div. 4 bracket. The Top 32 teams punch their tickets to the state tournament, which left the Whalers just short.
Girls Basketball: 9-10 record and #48 in the Div. 4 bracket. If you do not find yourself within the bracket's top 32, teams have a chance to clinch a play-in game if they finish their season with a .500 record or better. Had the Whalers won their game against Mashpee last week (lost 42-41), they would have extended their season.
Boys Hockey: 1-14 record and #42 in the Div. 4 bracket. A streak of three straight state quarterfinals appearances has been snapped, but Nantucket will graduate just one senior and is positioned to bounce back in a big way next winter.
The spring sports registration period is open, and you can sign up here. Below are the spring sports being offered by Nantucket High School.
