The girls tennis team is one of the hottest teams on the island heading into the spring break following a 5-0 victory over the Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins Friday afternoon on the road. The win was their fifth straight and improved their record to 6-3 this season.

Sara Dussault was the first singles player and won her match in straight sets 6-2, 6-1. She said she felt like she played well.

“I just played the point and waited for my opponent to mess up,” Dussault said. “I definitely need to work on coming into the net and my backhand shots could have been better today. Overall, pretty solid match.”

Gabby Nikolova was the second singles player and won her match in straight sets 6-0, 6-0. She said during her match, she remained focused and rarely made mistakes.

“I hit many balls down the line which my opponent couldn’t return,” she said. “Her serves were really good and fast, so I had to adapt to it and return it in a way that she couldn’t get. It was a pretty good match overall.”

Sutton LeBrecht was the third singles player and won in straight sets 6-0, 6-1. She said after the match she felt like she did a good job not playing down to her opponent’s level.

“She lobbed the ball a lot and I made sure to take my time and just get it over the net,” LeBrecht said. “She was really good at making me run all around the court, which was hard. I think I need to work on my second serve. But overall, I’m proud of how I stayed calm and collected today.”

The first doubles pairing was Ashley De Oliveria and Emery Bouchard, who won their match in straight sets 6-0, 6-1.

Charlotte Brooks and Eila Boyd were the second doubles pairing and won their match in straight sets 7-6, 6-4.

“Eila and I definitely have a lot of things to work on, especially communication,” Brooks said. “We also need to work on accurate shots and keeping our emotions under control. We got some good shots and points overall. We also comforted each other if one of us messed up. Overall, it was a good game and we had fun for our first match.”

Nantucket will be back in action on Monday, April 27th at home for a rematch against the Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins at 4 p.m.
