Boys Hoops Beat Martha’s Vineyard

The boys basketball team beat Martha’s Vineyard for the second time this season on Saturday, this time winning 85-78 to improve their record to 3-8 this season.
Nantucket was led by Vallon Jeanty, who finished with 26 points. The junior guard now has back-to-back 20+ point performances. The Whalers also got contributions offensively from freshman Burke Lombardi, who finished the game with 22 points and continues to be a dynamic scorer for this young Nantucket team.
The Whalers will have a busy three weeks ahead as they look to stack up wins and earn a state tournament spot. Their next game is scheduled for Tuesday, February 4th at home against the Nauset Warriors at 5 p.m.
Girls Hoops Beats Sturgis East

The girls basketball team beat the Sturgis East Storm 35-23 on Friday. It was their third win in a row and sixth win in their last seven games – improving their record to 6-3 this season.
Nantucket’s defense led them to victory, and it was at its best in the first and third quarters when they held the Storm to zero points.
"I've never seen a team hold another team to zero points in two quarters,” head coach Jillian Fraker said. “So just proud as a coach, and they're really proud of each other, which I think is awesome for the team.”
Fraker said the commitment to team defense was what allowed them to stymie the Storm’s attack.
"They made that adjustment in the locker room,” Fraker said. “That was the team deciding to come out strong with that full-court press coming out of the half, and then it worked, and they got very inspired by that. I think it's awesome to see the leadership stepping up and then again, almost our entire team scoring. To have the bench just so trustworthy for the team is wonderful.”
Eight of Nantucket’s nine players scored in the game. They were led by senior captain Maddie Lombardi (eight points) and junior Marin Mooney (six points).
Nantucket will try to improve to 7-3 when they travel to Monomoy on Tuesday, February 4th for a 3:30 p.m. game.
Boys Hockey Loses To Martha’s Vineyard

The boys hockey team is still searching for their first win of the season after losing to Martha’s Vineyard 4-1 on the road Saturday afternoon. The Whaler’s lone goal came from junior captain Jeremy Jenkinson.
Nantucket’s next chance at securing their first win will be on Monday, February 3rd on the road against the Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins at 3:45 p.m.
