The girls lacrosse team began their state tournament play with a convincing 19-3 victory over the Monomoy Sharks in the Round of 32 Tuesday afternoon, led by sophomore Louisa Beni who scored her 100th career varsity goal.

"I think that the girls were just super excited to play today, and it showed from the first whistle all the way through," Whaler head coach Kelly Brown said. "Celebrating all of those little wins or goals, or whatever it is. I think they just really played as a team today. It's just fun to watch at this point. We worked all season for this, for this opportunity. (Monomoy) came out hard.”

On Beni, Brown began by praising how unselfish her team plays. She then praised Beni for her work ethic.

“I think that Louisa is just a player that works very hard and is a quiet, hard worker," Brown said. "She just shows up every single day and works hard and doesn't expect recognition for it and I mean, her play is recognition enough I feel like. She's just a really cool player to coach. To have that experience coaching her is great.

“The girls are so unselfish with the ball,” Brown continued. “Louisa said that in the end of the game interview (with OurNCTV) all of her goals are assisted. Every girl on this team wanted her to get to that milestone, just to have that. I'm just so proud of them and how much they support each other. They want each other to succeed.”

The Whalers will now play either #9 Bromfield or #24 Triton Regional High School in the Round of 16 on the island.
