The Whaler field hockey team lost 3-1 to the Barnstable Red Hawks Thursday afternoon, with Marin Mooney scoring Nantucket’s only goal. The loss results in a split in the season series between the two schools after Nantucket beat Barnstable on the island earlier this year 3-1.

Nantucket is now 6-2 and remains in great shape midway through the season in the Div. 3 power rankings. They are currently the #5 seed and shouldn’t drop very far, if at all, given Barnstable is currently #12 in the Div. 2 bracket.

The Whaler’s next matchup is currently scheduled for Friday, October 3rd on the road against West Bridgewater at 3:30 p.m. Nantucket was originally supposed to play Sturgis East on Wednesday, but the game was postponed due to the strong winds. That game will now be played on October 9th.

The girls soccer team lost a close 2-0 matchup on the road to the Nauset Warriors Thursday afternoon. The game was tied 0-0 at halftime, but the Warriors ultimately separated themselves with the two second half goals.

Nantucket is currently the #39 seed in the Div. 3 bracket and has a 4-5-2 record. If they finish outside of the top 32, they could still clinch a state tournament berth with a final record of .500 or better.

With six games still remaining on their schedule, there is plenty of work to be done. The Whalers will be back in action on Monday, October 6th when they travel to play the Abington Green Wave at 3:30 p.m. Nantucket beat Abington on the island 4-2 on September 20th.
