Sports Roundup: Golf Wins Ninth Match Of Season
David Creed •
This Whaler sports roundup includes updates on the golf team after they took home their ninth win of the season, the cross country team after a road victory, and the volleyball team.
Whaler Golf Beats DY At Miacomet
The Nantucket varsity golf team improved to 9-6 this season after defeating the Dennis-Yarmouth Dolphins 257-267 Tuesday afternoon. It was the second time Nantucket beat DY this year – beating them on the road 260-271 as well back on September 9.
Below are the Whaler’s scores.
David Foley: 38
David Boulter: 39
TQ Scarlett: 42
Emil Ivanov: 44
Hunter Bistany: 47
Paxton Fitch: 47
Colby Lucas: 49
Ben Freeman: 50
Nantucket head coach Sam Herrick said after the match that had someone asked him before the season if he thought his team was going to have a winning season this fall, he probably would have said that would be very difficult to achieve given zero varsity golfers returned this year after each one graduated this past June.
But it is a testament to the golfers and coaching staff for ignoring the noise on the outside to earn a 9-6 record with one more match to go before the state tournament qualifiers later this month.
The final regular season match is scheduled for Wednesday, October 9 on the road against the Nauset Warriors at 3:30 p.m.
Cross Country Wins Road Meet
The Nantucket varsity boys cross country team earned a convincing 21-35 victory over the Sturgis East Storm Tuesday afternoon – improving their record to 4-1 this season.
Below are the times achieved by each Nantucket runner. The meet took place on a three-mile course at Sandwich Hollow Golf Club.

Dorian Manov: 18:59
Mike Sullivan: 19:40
Jimmy Fuller: 20:44
Numa Solano: 21:23
Nick Ferrantella: 21:34
Jack Harris: 22:30
Finnley Seip: 22:53
Boris Boychev: 24:06
