This week’s Current Court Report includes arraignments and dispositions from Monday’s Nantucket District Court session. It is led by two cases. The first involves a man who found led police on a car chase while intoxicated. The second involves a man who is alleged to have sexually assaulted a woman while she was asleep in her bed with her boyfriend.
Loubins Cadet, 42, of Nantucket, was arraigned on Sept. 3 charges of operating a motor vehicle under the influence of alcohol, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, a marked lanes violation, speeding, failure to stop for police, and failure to stop/yield. He had not-guilty pleas entered on his behalf and was ordered to return to court Oct. 21 for a pretrial hearing.
According to the police report, police observed a vehicle traveling at an estimated 50 miles per hour in a 25-mile-per-hour speed zone on Somerset Road - prompting police to turn around and conduct a stop.
But Cadet did not stop when the blue lights were activated and instead, police say he accelerated away from them at a high rate of speed - leading to a chase that went approximately .4 miles.
Cadet allegedly drove through a stop sign posted at Somerset Road/Marble Way, and then when he took a left onto Marble Way allegedly lost control of the vehicle, went off the roadway, and hit a rock. The vehicle then backed up and continued down Marble Way until it stopped further down the road.
Police detected a strong odor of alcohol emanating from his facial area while speaking to Cadet, and Cadet stated he had "one shot of Jack Daniels," Cadet failed all five field sobriety tests and blew a .23 on scene.
When Cadet got back to the station, he was observed for 15 minutes and blew a 0.192 and 0.211.
Emerson A. Carrillo Hernandez, 30, of Nantucket, was arraigned on Sept. 8 charges of indecent assault & battery on a person 14 or over and breaking & entering a building in the nighttime for a felony. He had not-guilty pleas entered on his behalf and was ordered to return to court Nov. 12 for a pretrial hearing.
According to the police report, Hernandez allegedly sexually assaulted the alleged victim while she was in bed sleeping with her boyfriend. When she woke up, the alleged victim said Hernandez put his finger over his lips – telling her to be quiet.
When the alleged victim woke the boyfriend up, she said Hernandez fled out the bedroom window, which is where she believes he entered the home from because it was unlocked.
While speaking to police, both the alleged victim and the boyfriend identified Hernandez, who they said they recognized because he was a friend and co-worker of the boyfriend and that they “have all previously hung out together.”
