This week's Current Court Report includes arraignments and dispositions from Monday's Nantucket District Court session.

Charles Martin McGowan, 32, of Nantucket was arraigned on Nov. 16, 2023 charges of operating a motor vehicle with a license revoked as a habitual traffic offender, leaving the scene of property damage, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, speeding in violation of a special regulation, and using a motor vehicle without authority. He had not-guilty pleas entered on his behalf and while no bail was set on these new charges, McGowan was detained on other charges for violating his probation and is currently in the Barnstable House of Corrections.

According to the police report, McGowan was involved in a two-car accident in the area of Marble Way at Somerset Road after he allegedly drove down Somerset Road at a high rate of speed (40 mph in a 25 mph speed zone) and collided with the other vehicle.

The operator of the other vehicle told police McGowan then allegedly fled the area on foot without stopping, saying his name, or where he resides. McGowan returned to the scene a short time later according to police and admitted to police he knew he shouldn't be driving, which is why he fled. It was also learned that McGowan was operating a vehicle without permission from the car's owner.

McGowan was ordered to return to court April 24 for a pretrial hearing.
