A pair of island residents whose apartment was raided by members of the Nantucket Police Department and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in late December of 2024 agreed to a plea deal Friday morning that lands them on probation and will require them to hand over their firearms to a lawful owner until the probation is completed.
Jason Pearl, 25, and Angel Landaverde, 23, both of Nantucket, will have Dec. 23rd, 2024 charges of improper storage of a firearm continued without a finding for one year. They were ordered to surrender all firearms to a lawful owner to be approved by the Nantucket Police. Pearl had 11 improper storage of a firearm charges continued without a finding while Landaverde had four.
Pearl had charges of possessing a large capacity weapon and possessing 10+ ounces of marijuana stemming from the same incident dismissed. Pearl was also ordered to surrender his large capacity firearm and any remaining marijuana in his possession.
According to the police report, members of the Nantucket Police Department, Environmental Police Department, and ATF executed a search warrant at 6A Benjamin Road on December 23rd, 2024 that was granted through the Nantucket District Court. They were searching for silencers, any illegal firearms/accessories, and receipts/documents pertaining to the sale and purchase of the items. Pearl was the subject of the warrant.
As officials began to search Pearl’s bedroom, they found a loaded Glock handgun under Pearl’s pillow on his bed that was not locked or properly secured. They proceeded to find nine other firearms located in his closet that were not locked or properly secured. Police said Pearl’s bedroom door and house were unlocked and unsecured.
Police also found approximately 5.8 pounds of a green leafy substance believed to be marijuana in six vacuumed sealed bags in a roommate’s bedroom closet, and Pearl allegedly told police during an interview it was his. Police then searched Pearl’s truck and found a large capacity magazine drum located in the glove box, a pro mag 30 round .22 caliber drum magazine, and a shot gun located between the driver’s seat and center console not properly locked or secured.
As for Landaverde, during the search of the property police located a handgun under a pillow on his bed not properly secured or locked as well as three other firearms in his room that were registered to him and not properly locked or secured. The bedroom and closet were not locked, according to police, and neither was the residence.
