Criminal charges have been filed against the second man involved in last week’s altercation on South Beach Street that led to a stabbing and a chaotic scene along The Strip on Broad Street.

Andre Hamilton, who was rushed to the hospital by ambulance and later transported by Medflight helicopter to be treated for his injuries, is now facing charges of assault and battery, and assault and battery with a dangerous weapon. He is scheduled to be arraigned during Nantucket District Court’s August 3rd session.

The other man involved in the incident, Kemar Downing, is already facing two charges of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon causing serious bodily injury. He was arrested following the altercation, held overnight by Nantucket Police, and arraigned the following day. Downing was subsequently released on $2,500 bail with several conditions. His attorney, Rob Moriarty, is bringing forward a motion to dismiss the charges against him on Tuesday.

Moriarty argued during the arraignment session last week that the incident was a clear case of self-defense, and that Downer did not pull the knife on Hamilton until he was attacked from behind, a claim that appears to be supported by a surveillance video obtained by the Current of the incident:
