The Nantucket Police Blotter features a selection of police reports from the past week that include a little bit of everything: the unusual, the humorous, the interesting, and some of the mundane cases island police are called to. No names, just a summary of the call.
- Tuesday, May 19: A Nantucket police officer was flagged down by staff members at the Miacomet Golf Course at 4:40 a.m. regarding a person screaming on the course in the vicinity of holes four and five. The officer determined it was a person searching for his dog.
- Tuesday May 19: A Grove Lane resident called police to report an abandoned moped near his residence that had been there for six months without a license plate. Officers responded but were unable to identify its owner.
- Tuesday, May 19: Suspicious activity at Jetties Beach. A group of juveniles was seen gathered at the Jetties Beach parking lot. They told police they were cooking burgers in the dunes. They were advised that the lot closes at dusk.
- Wednesday, May 20: Just after 4 a.m., a resident of the Lovers Lane / Davkim Lane area reported a male party was sleeping in a vehicle in front of their house. The man told police he had fallen asleep in his car when he got home from work.
- Wednesday, May 20: A young man was stopped by police for riding a Talaria ebike on First Way without a learner’s permit, no helmet, and a passenger riding with him. He was advised of the rules for that type of e-bike, and his boss came to pick up the bike. The police said they would call his mother the following day.
- Wednesday, May 20: A Vestal Street resident called police to complain that their neighbor’s chickens have been getting onto their property and laying eggs. Police contacted the neighbor, who stated they would ensure the chickens are not roaming free and would keep them contained in the coop.
- Wednesday, May 20: At noon, a person reported suspicious activity in the public school parking area. The person was putting flyers on vehicles. An officer spoke with the person and advised him to go to the central office with the flyers to ask permission.
- Thursday, May 21: Following a noise complaint at 11:30 p.m. at an Orange Street residence, the party was advised to turn the music off and take it in for the night, as well as “the consequences if we have to come back this weekend.”
