Bill Belichick Files Third-Party Complaint Against Island Contractor Amidst Ongoing Civil Lawsuit

Bill Belichick, through attorneys David L. Fine and Peter J. Hamilton, is demanding a jury trial and filed a third-party complaint against Levesque Builders Inc., a local contractor, as part of his response to the lawsuit filed in April by island painter Andrew Jackson. The former New England Patriots head coach states in the complaint that Levesque Builders was responsible for ensuring all work done at his property was completed safely. 

“If Mr. Jackson was injured while performing painting work at the Property – which 45 LLC denies – his injuries were sustained as a result either of his own negligence or fault in performing the work, or Levesque's negligence or fault in failing to direct, control, manage and/or supervise the work,” the complaint states.

The Current reached out to Pat Levesque, the owner of the business, but has not received a reply. He was served the complaint on July 13th according to the Nantucket Superior Court's database.

Jackson’s lawsuit was filed on April 2^nd. He is seeking nearly $300,000 after he allegedly slipped and fell while working at 45 Fair Street, which is owned and managed by Belichick under Forty Five Fair Street LLC.

“As a direct and proximate result of the fall, plaintiff sustained serious bodily injuries including a severe right ankle injury, together with pain, disability, medical expenses, lost wages, and other consequential damages,” Jackson’s lawsuit says.

Jackson said he fell as a result of unsafe conditions on the property he describes as "the placement, use, and/or maintenance of plastic sheeting or coverings and other unsafe site conditions in the work area.”

According to Belichick’s camp in his third-party complaint, they believe regardless of whether Jackson was injured or not, Belichick should not be on the hook for any of the damages granted. In the complaint, Belichick's camp reiterates that Levesque Builders was hired to oversee all work done on the property and that Levesque was the entity who hired Jackson as a subcontractor in the first place - thus making Levesque Builders Inc. the ones liable for paying most, if not all, of the damages awarded in court. 

“Levesque, solely and exclusively, maintained direction, control, management and supervision over Mr. Jackson's work at the property,” the lawsuit states. “Levesque, solely and exclusively, maintained responsibility to ensure that Mr. Jackson and/or his employer performed the painting work safely and properly. 45 LLC did not direct, control, manage or supervise Mr. Jackson or his employer in connection with the painting work.”

The third-party complaint comes after Belichick called Jackson’s accusations that he sustained injuries while working on the former New England Patriots head coach’s property due to unsafe working conditions as “frivolous” and “wholly unsubstantiated” in his initial response to the lawsuit in June.

“Plaintiff's claims are frivolous, wholly unsubstantiated and have not been advanced in good faith,” the response stated. “In accordance with MG.L.. 231, §6F, (Belichick) should be awarded (his) attorney’s fees and costs incurred defending this frivolous action.”

Belichick, who has owned a compound in 'Sconset on Nantucket's east end for decades, closed on the Fair Street property for $4.8 million back in 2024.
