Marine Assistance Company To Begin Operating Out Of Nantucket

Nantucket Current •

Sea Tow Cape and Islands, a marine assistance company, announced last week that they will now operating out of Nantucket. The company said a base on the island will improve response times for boaters who need any sort of assistance.

“Nantucket has a short but busy season, and with the uptick in boating activity comes an increase in on-water assistance calls,” the company said in a release. “With challenges such as shoaling, sand bars, shifting channels, and stationary rock piles, Sea Tow provides navigational assistance and tips to members, as well as escort services through tricky to navigate passages, like Woods Hole pass in Cape Cod, to help get them and their vessels safely to Nantucket.”

Sea Tow is capable of addressing technical issues. As boats have become more technologically advanced, more reliance has been placed on the technology to do much of the navigation work.

“From knowing how to correctly trouble shoot problems to understanding the readings of a potentially faulty sensor, Sea Tow members benefit from assistance that keeps them boating safely and enjoying time spent on the water,” they said. “In New England, there is a very real limitation for available marine technicians that can repair boats to get them back on the water,” Captain Ramsey Chason, owner of Sea Tow Cape and Islands, said. “Summer is a short season, and marine technicians can sometimes take weeks to make a repair. We are in a unique position to not only provide access to Sea Tow’s services but offer our ability to troubleshoot and avoid repairs. We can give them their season back.”

In recent years, Chason and Sea Tow have been dispatching boats from Cape Cod to assist boaters. He has wanted to install a base on the island since 2017.

You need a membership in order to access these services, which you can get on their website, but with a Sea Tow membership, boaters pay one annual rate and receive free boat towing, unlimited dock-to-dock towing on all boats, nationwide coverage, free fuel delivery, battery jump starts and exclusive member savings and discounts.

Sea Tow has more than 500+ ports nationwide including the United States, Puerto Rico and the U.S. Virgin Islands.
