Nantucket Cottage Hospital Launches Orthopedic Walk-In Clinic
Nantucket Current •
Nantucket Cottage Hospital (NCH) is launching a new orthopedic walk-in clinic at the this week, which it says will offer convenient, same-day access to expert care for acute musculoskeletal and sports-related injuries.
The new clinic will be located at the Nantucket Cottage Medical Group inside the main hospital facility. In its announcement, the hospital stated the clinic expands Mass General Brigham’s existing orthopedic services and advancements, including the recruitment of new orthopedic surgeons at NCH announced last year.
"These developments ensure island residents and visitors can access high-quality healthcare without traveling off the island," the hospital stated.
The orthopedic walk-In clinic will provide same-day care for nonemergency musculoskeletal and sports-related injuries, such as sprains and sudden joint pain. It is open to patients ages five and older and will operate Tuesday through Thursday from noon to 4:00 p.m., in coordination with the hospital's imaging services.
“Nantucket Cottage Hospital is committed to providing patient-centered, convenient care, and this new orthopedic walk-in clinic will expand healthcare options for our active island community,” said Amy Lee, President and Chief Operating Officer of Nantucket Cottage Hospital. “By expanding access to specialty services on the island, we are reducing the need for stressful and costly travel, improving recovery times, and supporting the health of our unique community.”
The new clinic will provide patients with physical examinations, diagnostic imaging (including x-rays), and comprehensive evaluations to ensure fast, accurate diagnosis and treatment plans. On-site casting and bracing will also be available. One of the goals in offering those services is to keep patients with non-emergency needs out of the Emergency Department. Appointments will not be required.
"It has been an honor and a privilege to provide high-quality orthopedic care to the Nantucket community,” said Alexandra Wolfe, Orthopedic PA-C. “The orthopedic walk-in clinic at NCH will allow us to better meet the needs of island residents and visitors by expanding access to comprehensive orthopedic care. I truly love this work, and I am grateful for the opportunity to continue helping our community stay active and healthy through close collaboration with Dr. Al Hanmer, our amazing team of surgeons, and the other orthopedic physician assistants at NCH.”
The orthopedic walk-in clinic is being offered in addition to NCH’s existing urgent access service. Patients seeking care at the new clinic must be registered with Mass General Brigham to be treated – those who have previously been seen at NCH will already be registered. New patients can register by phone at 866-211-6588 before arriving.
