Nantucket Current •

The Nantucket Film Festival revealed its 2026 lineup on Wednesday. The festival will run from June 17-22 and feature dozens of films and documentaries throughout the course of the week.

The opening film will be The Invite, directed by Olivia Wilde with a cast featuring Seth Rogen, Olivia Wilde, Penélope Cruz, and Edward Norton. The film follows Joe and Angela, a couple on thin ice, who host their upstairs neighbors for dinner. Everything that can go wrong goes worse.

The centerpiece film will be Give Me The Ball! The documentary is presented by Liz Garbus and Elizabeth Wolff. This uniquely intimate portrait of tennis legend Billie Jean King reveals the inner turmoil behind the immense sacrifices the trailblazer made to transform her sport and the world.

The closing presentation will be The Five Star Weekend, and is directed by Minkie Spiro. It features a packed cast including Jennifer Garner, Chloë Sevigny, Regina Hall, Gemma Chan, D''Arcy Carden, Harlow Jane, and Timothy Olyphant.

Based off island resident Elin Hilderbrand's bestselling novel, a beloved food influencer grapples with loss and hosts four friends from different chapters of her life for a weekend in Nantucket, where hidden truths emerge and relationships evolve amid coastal luxury.

Some notable conversations and panels taking place include:

Ken Burns:
Burns returns to the Nantucket Film Festival with a new installment from his landmark documentary The American Revolution. "Expanding on last year’s program, this presentation shifts focus to the language and ideas that ignited a revolution, with an extended look at the Declaration of Independence, Thomas Paine’s Common Sense, and the Battle of Bunker Hill. Following the screening, Burns will lead a conversation examining the ideals articulated in 1776 as America approaches its semiquincentennial," the program states. "More than a recounting of history, this timely conversation is about who we are, and who we aspire to be."

Paul Feig:
Feig is this year’s Visionary Storyteller Honoree and will share stories from his career while pulling back the curtain on his creative process.

"Join us for a conversation with groundbreaking director, showrunner, and producer Paul Feig," the program states. "From comedic blockbusters and luscious dramas to beloved television comedies and characters, Feig’s work has been a staple on must-see roundups and personal favorite lists for decades, including moments from sets like Freaks and Geeks (1999), Bridesmaids (2011), Ghostbusters (2016), and The Housemaid (2025)."

Rashida Jones & Will McCormack:
Jones and McCormack are this year's Special Achievement in Screenwriting Award winners and will be taking part in an in-depth conversation on the origins of their long-standing creative partnership and the evolution of their work together.

"As writers, their credits span the Oscar-nominated Toy Story 4 and Celeste and Jesse Forever, as well as their newest breakout, The Invite," the program states. "Moving fluidly between writing, directing, and producing, the two bring a distinctly personal lens to character, tone, and story. In conversation, Jones and McCormack reflect on their process, the rhythms of collaboration, and how their multi-hyphenate careers continue to shape the stories they choose to tell and how they tell them."
