The 2026 Boston Marathon will take place on Monday, April 20th and there will be 10 island residents participating. Below is the list of runners and their causes. These were all found using the Boston Marathon’s online entry list. If any of our readers know of any island runners not listed below, please email davidcreed@n-magazine.com and we will add them.

Alexa Aloisi

Alexa Aloisi will be running the Boston Marathon and will be doing so in honor of her Aunt, who passed away of cancer in 2024, and all of the money she raises will go to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

"This is why I am running for the Dana Farber Foundation and its cancer research," Aloisi said on her fundraiser page. "One hundred percent of every dollar raised by the DFMC team supports the Claudia Adams Barr Program in Innovative Basic Cancer Research at Dana-Farber Cancer Institute."

Jim Congdon

Jim Congdon will be running the Boston Marathon and per usual, Nantucket’s Iron Man has qualified for the race and is not running for a charity. He will be in the second wave of runners.

David Desnoyers

David Desnoyers is running the Boston Marathon not once, but twice(!) in one day. Desnoyers will be participating in what is called the “Double Boston” where he will be one of several runners to get up around 2 a.m., run the marathon from the finish line to the starting line beginning at approximately 3 a.m., take a brief couple hour break to regroup, change clothes, shoes, eat food and hydrate, and then run the traditional marathon from start to finish. He will be in the marathon’s first wave of runners.

"The group that I'm doing this with, these six other runners, we've all raced with this group called the Trail Animal Run Club, and they are a non-profit that puts 5Ks and Ultra marathon trail races on in the state of Massachusetts in different state forests all across the state," he said.

"This will actually be my first Boston (Marathon)," Desnoyers continued. "So taking it on as a double was actually an effort to take the pressure off the time component. So signing up to do this with a group of people, it's kind of a different task."

Desnoyers told the Current he began to run once he arrived on the island to give himself an outlet physically and mentally. He spoke glowingly about the Monument Running Group and the running community on the island.

"(The Monument Running Group) has been a great community to be a part of," Desnoyers said. "Phenomenal people."

Sarah Desnoyers

Sarah Desnoyers will be running the Boston Marathon and is raising funds for the Morgan Memorial Goodwill Marathon Team, which supports Goodwill’s Boston Youth Programs through the Peter Morrissey Youth Fund, helping young people with barriers to employment; gain job training, work experience, and the confidence to build independent futures.

This will be Sarah’s second time running the Boston Marathon, having completed the race in 2021. You can learn more about Sarah and the cause she is running for here. She will be running in the sixth wave.

Kezia Duarte

Kezia Duarte is running the Boston Marathon and is raising funds for Boston Children’s Hospital as part of the Miles for Miracles team. She previously ran for this team last year in the London Marathon.

“Being a registered nurse, it's important to me to run for organizations that are helping patients and their overall health,” Duarte says on her fundraising page. “Whether that be towards research or medical bills, I know that every dollar raised will go towards the BEST medical care in the COUNTRY.”

Frank McGillin

Frank McGillin is running the Boston Marathon and will be part of the fifth wave. He is a member and leader of the Monument Running Group on Nantucket. This will be Mcgillin's fourth Boston Marathon.

Robin Mitchell

Robin Mitchell is running the Boston Marathon, however a fundraiser was unable to be located. Please email davidcreed@n-magazine.com if any of our readers know whether Mitchell is running for charity or a qualified runner.

Angela Paterson

Angela Paterson is running the Boston Marathon and is supporting Mass General Hospital. The island native is a member of the Nantucket Police Department, one of two school resource officers, and the head coach of the Whaler’s girls varsity basketball team, Paterson plays a large role in the island’s community.

“This incredible institution works tirelessly to provide top-notch medical care and support to everyone in the community,” Paterson says on her fundraiser page. “By supporting my fundraising campaign, you help advance their innovative research, patient programs, and life-saving treatments. Whether big or small, every donation counts in making a difference. Let’s unite for health and hope.”
