Putting Nantucket First

To the editor: In this season of thankfulness, many of us are filled with gratitude for our fellow islanders who worked so hard, once again, in the run-up to Special Town Meeting.

On whatever side of the short-term rental issue, there were dedicated citizens who pored over voter lists, sent emails, made phone calls, submitted letters to the editor, handed out information at the Stop and Shop, posted on social media, composed ads, set up (and collected) signs, and, yes, even until the last moment, kept trying to find compromise.

They did all of this, not because of any personal financial interest, but because they love Nantucket and wanted to do what they could to protect the character of our residential neighborhoods.

We are indebted to each and every one of them for putting Nantucket first.
