The Whaler boys lacrosse team’s record is not indicative of how good they are.
While Nantucket came into their game on Saturday against the Pembroke Titans at 3-6, they’ve lost some nailbiters to teams such as Plymouth South and Falmouth.
The Whalers played Pembroke in their season opener but lost 8-4 back in April. On Saturday, they got their revenge in the form of a 5-4 victory.
“We really needed a win like that,” head coach Sam Aloisi said.
Jack Halik scored Nantucket’s final three goals. Two were off incredible assists from Makai Bodden and Cole Chambers.
George Boucher was fantastic all game and continues to be one of Nantucket’s best and most consistent players.
“George kept us in it there towards the end where he made a few tremendous saves,” Aloisi said. “I felt like we should have won by more but I just didn’t think we got any breaks until a hit post at the end. Pembroke seemed to get them all.”
The Whaler’s defense returned to form with the typical anchors Griffin Starr and Hunter Strojny cleaning up any loose trash in the offensive end, but Aloisi said Luke Stringer also deserved credit for his play.
“Stringer played awesome for us today,” Aloisi said. “He was injured and then he got sick, so he hadn’t played much up until today. He was great though. He was a big difference for us today as our long stick middie.”
Makai Bodden and Cole Chambers also had a goal on Saturday. The Whalers are now 4-6 and have a pair of away league games coming up.
Nantucket will travel to Dennis-Yarmouth on Monday for a 4 p.m. game and to Barnstable on Tuesday for a 3:30 p.m. game.
