Bryan Larivee Named Nantucket Varsity Boys Hockey Head Coach

The Nantucket Athletic Department announced Thursday afternoon that Bryan Larivee has been hired as the next head coach of the Nantucket High School Varsity Boys Hockey Program. Larivee told the Current that former boys hockey head coach Scott Corbett will be joining his staff as an assistant coach.

“We are happy to welcome Bryan into this role and look forward to the next chapter of Whaler Hockey,” Nantucket Athletic Director Travis Lombardi said. “His passion, energy, experience, and connections to the Nantucket hockey community will bring tremendous value to the program as he builds upon the strong foundation established before him. Bryan’s connection to Nantucket hockey dates back to 2005. He began working with the Jr. Whalers in 2006 and joined the Nantucket High School coaching staff in 2008 as the varsity goalie coach. He later became an assistant coach. During his time with Nantucket Hockey, Bryan has been part of several successful teams, including the 2017 undefeated regular season, the 2023 Final Four team, and the 2024 Elite Eight team.”

Larivee is currently the Nantucket Ice Rink Manager/Facilities Director, and has had multiple stints as an assistant coach for the program - including, as mentioned above by Lombardi, the 2022-2023 season when the Whalers made the state semifinal and the 2023-2024 season when they made the state quarterfinal.

“I am incredibly honored and excited to become the head coach of the Nantucket High School boys hockey program,” Larivee said. “Hockey has been a lifelong passion of mine, and since 2005, I have had the privilege of coaching on Nantucket in various roles, including serving as a varsity assistant and working closely with Nantucket Youth Hockey. This opportunity means a great deal to me personally, and I’m grateful for the trust the school has placed in me. Our goal will be to build a culture centered on accountability, discipline, hard work, and representing Nantucket the right way, both on and off the ice. I look forward to strengthening the connection between our youth program, high school team, and alumni while building Whaler Pride throughout the entire program.”

Lombardi said Larivee's vision for the program is centered on developing student-athletes both on and off the ice, while creating a strong connection between youth hockey, the high school program, alumni, and the Nantucket community.
