The Whaler girls lacrosse team finds themselves as one of the state's best in Div. 4 through the first seven games of the season. The MIAA released their state tournament brackets on Friday and the Whalers sat in the number two seed entering this past weekend. They had a pair of games on tap, including a date with Martha's Vineyard on Saturday, and made quick work of both teams, beating the Vineyard 12-3 and the Monomoy Sharks 17-6.

Nantucket made quick work of their island rival. Sophomore midfielder Bailey Lower led the way for the Whalers, scoring four of Nantucket's first five goals, including a dazzling behind-the-back goal that you can see below thanks to the Nantucket Sports Connection broadcast.

Lower finished with six goals on the day. Sophomore midfielder Emerson Pekarcik had two goals. Sophomore attacker Cydney Mosscrop had two goals and an assist. Senior midfielder Ava Mosscrop had one goal and an assist. Defender Hannah Evens also had one goal.

The Whalers were right back at it on Sunday, hosting the Monomoy Sharks, who entered the weekend at #10 in the Div. 4 bracket. Nantucket found themselves in a tight matchup against the Sharks and only held a slim 6-3 lead at halftime.

But Nantucket went on to explode for 11 second-half goals en route to a 17-6 victory over the Sharks.
Cydney Mosscrop and Pekarcik led the team with five goals. Mosscrop also added a pair of assists.
Bailey Lower scored four goals and added two assists. Ava Mosscrop added two goals. Freshman midfielder Mayson Lower had one goal. Senior midfielder Emerson Milne also had a goal.
The Whalers overcame some penalty trouble in the first half. Monomoy scored two of their three first half goals on the man advantage.
Whaler goalie Mimi Belanger did a good job of limiting the damage on the scoreboard with several quality stops while the game was still tight. She had 13 saves total on the day.
The Whalers are now 6-1 and they will be back in action on Tuesday, May 3, when they travel to play the St. John Paul II Lions at 3:30 p.m.
