Boys Hockey Loses To Mashpee/Monomoy

The boys hockey team continues to play competitive hockey amidst a tough schedule, and on Wednesday they traveled to the Cape to play Mashpee/Monomoy - the #13 seed in Division 4.

Nantucket lost 4-2 after two third period goals by the Sharks to pull out the victory. Whaler head coach Jack Moran continues to praise his junior goalie - Thomas Schroeder - who made the sacrifice of playing forward to put on the goalie pads with his team not having a net minder this season.

Schroeder played goalie for most of his youth hockey career, so he wasn't unfamiliar with the role, however Moran said Schroeder had "over 35 saves" in Wednesday's matchup.

"Thomas is playing out of his mind," Moran said. "He had to have stopped at least 35 shots. A ton of them during penalty kills."

Nantucket's two goals were both scored in the second period after the Sharks took a 2-0 lead into the first intermission. Senior captain Canton Jenkinson scored 1:28 into the second period off an assist from Felix Soares. Then just over a minute later, Jeremy Jenkinson scored an unassisted goal to make it a 2-2 game.

"It was a great game," Moran said. "We played solid and we were tied at 2 going into the third. They went ahead on a screen shot and then on the last goal, Thomas grabbed it with his catcher but the force threw his glove back and the puck came out into the goal. Good, solid, physical hockey game."

Nantucket's next game is scheduled for Saturday, January 24th on the road against Foxborough High School at 2 p.m.
